British Army August 2024 Applications for Commonwealth Citizens

The British army has announced its intention to open applications for commonwealth citizens who are interested in join the force to apply.

The Army Recruitment and Initial Training Command stated that, the portal will be opened for seven (7) days between 19th and 25th August, 2024. The force has very limited branches available to fill.

Branches Available:

  • Corps of Army Music (Musicians = instrumentalists)
  • Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (Reme)
  • RE Technician
  • Tradesmen and Para (Paratroopers)

Requirements For Branches:

Corps of Army Music

  • No educational qualification needed
  • You need to know how to play an instrument
  • Applicants must be able to reach 4.02 MSFT (Multistage Fitness Test). This test measures your aerobic endurance
  • Ability to show that you can lift 50kg barbell from mid-thigh. This is mean to assess your lower body and back strength
  • Achieve a distance of 2.7 meters in a med ball throw. This exercise is to test your upper body power and explosive strength

Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers

  • Must have from grade A – C in Maths, English and Science in your WASSCE/GCSE
  • Achieve 6.06 MSFT
  • Able to carry 50kg barbell mid-thigh
  • 3.0 med ball throw

RE Technician

  • Have grade A to D in Maths and English
  • Pass 7.05 Multistage Fitness Test
  • Capacity to lift 50kg weight bar up your thigh
  • Ability to throw a Med ball at a distance of 3.0 meters

Tradesmen and Para

  • 11.06 – MSFT
  • Lift weight bar of 76kg upper thigh
  • Throw a Med ball at a distance of 3.1 meters
  • No academic records needed
  • Parachute Regiment Development Visit.

Mode Of Applications For The Slots At The British Army

When you go to the page between August 19 and 25, follow the procedure below to apply:

  1. Follow the 6 steps provided and submit your application
  2. You will be made to fill an online questionnaire
  3. Initial application questions
  4. Tattoos
  5. Family origin questionnaire (this will determine if you need to do a sickle cell test or not)
  6. Upload passport
  7. Where applicable, education and trade certificates will be uploaded
  8. Interview over phone or Microsoft teams
  9. Recruiting Group Medical Declaration
  10. Upon request, you will go to your local police station to get a police report

Important Notice:

If your answers to the questions below are all « yes » then you can boldly, apply when the portal is open:

  • Are you genuinely interested in joining the army?
  • Do you have/will you be able to get a UK visiting Visa when you are called to the UK for further assessments?
  • Do you have a sponsor in the UK (one who will accommodate you there?
  • If you do not have a sponsor, do you have enough financial strength to take care of your transport, accommodation and living expenses for the duration of your visit?
